Your Social Media Activities Can Harm Your Image

There is an ever-increasing trend for hiring managers, international scholarship committees, and award panels, to run social network checks on applicants – as our social networking activities are viewed as extensions and expressions of who we truly are.

I therefore advise you to think very carefully before making your next LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram post. Start by asking yourself the question: What image of myself do I wish to portray?

I encourage you not to view this as a constraint, but as an opportunity to portray the best of you to the world. Take this advice seriously enough, and your virtual social and professional networks can very easily become useful checks on your character, and may even land you that opportunity that you have been dreaming of.
